'Mapping a Story': The Puget Sound Indian Wars


This interactive map of the Puget Sound Indian Wars will take one on a chronological journey of the battles that took place from 1855 - 1856, informed by the descendants of those warriors who lived it.

Different groups of people often experience the same history differently. Typically, those with privilege and power dictate which narrative is reproduced and shared. Because of this, society loses a part of its history - important traditional connections to land are lost and overlooked. Through representing formerly “invisible” narratives and historical accounts hidden in our dominant societies, we can restore lost connections. These narratives can best be understood through an interactive process that represents the geographical and personal relationships between people and the places they lived.

The following map was produced from the information and personal accounts collected by Tallis and Gilbert "Hoagie" King George, and recounts the narrative they wrote.
