'What is a Map?': A Campus Map


Our goal was to create a visualization of something that is known and break it down to it's most simplistic form in order to show relationships of space that may exist but aren't initially seen. This map of the University of Washington Seattle Campus is intended to be an example of figure-ground cartographic techniques.

The campus is separated by its “spaces”, each representing a different use. These singular spaces are isolated against an unobtrusive base layer to reveal and emphasize surprising intersections.
